Wiping old work phones

Wiping old work phones

As employees leave and turn in their phones, we’ll need to do a couple things to get the device ready to go for someone else. Here is the checklist below along with instructions.

  1. Asset Panda – Return Asset
    1. Scan the back of the phone to locate in AP, click onto the asset to bring up that specific asset’s info
    2. Press the red circle and select “Return Asset”
    3. At the bottom of the screen, there will be another “Return Asset” button. Click that
    4. Enter any notes you deem important (remember, the history will show who it was assigned to, so no need to note who was using it before)
    5. Click the Red circle checkmark

  1. Wipe and Factory Reset the phone (youtube link below)
    1. Option 1 – Employee gave you their PIN/Password and you have access to the Settings app

                                                               i.      Unlock the phone, navigate to Settings app

ii.      Scroll down to General Management

                                                           iii.      Click Reset

                                                           iv.      Click Factory data reset

                                                             v.      Click Reset again

vi.      The phone will do its thing, you can then reboot the phone and set up for someone else

    1. Option 2 – Phone is locked and you can’t get into the Settings app

                                                               i.      If the phone is off, Press and hold down the power button and Volume Up buttons

        1. If the phone is on, press and hold down the power button and Volume Down button, then continue with the next steps

ii.      When you see the Samsung logo, release the power button and keeping holding the Volume Up button

iii.      A blue/black screen will appear

iv.      Use the volume down button to highlight Wipe data/factory reset

                                                             v.      Press the power button to select

vi.      Press the power button again to choose the factory reset option

vii.      Once it is done, the bottom text will display that

viii.      Use the volume down button to highlight Report system now and select with the power key

ix.      System will reboot like normal and can be set up for someone else

Please note: Resetting a phone while it is locked can be a toughie. Watch this Youtube video (it is a lifesaver!!) and understand it make take a couple of tries to get the timing right. If it gives you too much of a headache, you can also input the wrong pin 20'ish times and it will force wipe/reset the phone.

If you have any issues, submit a Zoho ticket with the layout "Mobile Phone" and state what you have already tried.
